Review: Lamberton on Baltzly, Finamore, and Miles, Proclus: Commentary on Plato’s ‘Republic’. Volume I

Robert Lamberton (of Homer the Theologian fame) has published a very review of the new Cambridge UP translation of the first half of Proclus's Commentary on the Republic. Langermann on Renger and Stavru (eds.), Pythagorean Knowledge from the Ancient to the Modern World

BMCR has just posed a review by Tzvi Langermann of the fascinating volume Pythagorean Knowledge from the Ancient to the Modern World: Askesis, Religion, Science. Episteme in Bewegung: Beiträge zu einer transdisziplinären Wissensgeschichte, 4.  Edited by Almut-Barbara Renger and Alessandro Stavru. Wiesbaden:  Harrasowitz Verlag, 2016. The title covers 'Pythagoreanism' in virtually every conceivable permutation of the term, and, perhaps even more importantly, it also addresses why there are so many permutations of the term in the first place. It promises to be a must-read for anyone interested in the subject. Langermann's review offers a fine summary at the BMCR site here.
