Interview with Andreas Manos on neoplatonism (in Greek)

Ο αρχιεπίσκοπος του Έστεργκομ (Esztergom) Ματθίας Κορβίνους (Matthias Corvinus) της Ουγγαρίας (1443-1490), υπό την επίδραση του ιταλικού ουμανισμού και του καθοδηγητή του και συλλέκτη βιβλίων Γιάνος Βιτέζ (János Vitéz), ανέπτυξε ένα πάθος για τα βιβλία και τη μάθηση. Όταν εκλέχτηκε βασιλιάς της Ουγγαρίας το 1458 σε ηλικία 14 ετών, ο Κορβίνους κέρδισε μεγάλη αναγνώριση για τις μάχες του εναντίον των Οθωμανών Τούρκων και την αγάπη του για τα γράμματα. Έτσι δημιούργησε τη Bibliotheca Corviniana, μια από τις καλύτερες βιβλιοθήκες της Ευρώπης εκείνη την εποχή. Μετά τον θάνατό του, και ιδιαίτερα μετά την κατάκτηση της Βούδας από τους Τούρκους το 1541, η βιβλιοθήκη διασκορπίστηκε και μεγάλο μέρος της συλλογής καταστράφηκε, ενώ οι διάφοροι τόμοι της βρέθηκαν διάσπαρτοι σε όλη την Ευρώπη. 
       Ο κώδικας με τις Εννεάδες του Πλωτίνου, ένα από τα οκτώ χειρόγραφα που βρίσκονταν αρχικά στη Bibliotheca Corviniana σήμερα φυλάσσεται στην Κρατική Βιβλιοθήκη της Βαυαρίας. Ο κώδικας αντιγράφτηκε από δύο διαφορετικούς γραφείς, οι οποίοι είναι επαρκώς γνωστοί στη σύγχρονη βιβλιογραφία. Ο κώδικας πιθανότατα αγοράστηκε από τον Κορβίνους αμέσως μετά από τη δημιουργία του. Η Συλλογή της Bibliotheca Corviniana καταγράφηκε ως παγκόσμια κληρονομιά της ανθρωπότητας από την UNESCO το 2005. Έχει κανείς την πολυτέλεια να ξεφυλλίσει το ψηφιακό αντίγραφο του χειρογράφου των Εννεάδων από εδώ.

English tr. of Kalligas’ Commentary on Plotinus

The first volume of an English translation of the commentaries of Paul Kalligas on Plotinus' Enneads has appeared, published by Princeton UP. Kalligas has been a respected voice in Plotinus Studies for years, but his Hellenophone commentaries remain relatively unknown to scholars that does not read modern Greek. This book, which addresses Enneads I-III (and Porphyry's Life of Plotinus) promises to be a must-have for readers of Plotinus, offering insight both on the substance of his philosophy as well as his Greek text in our modern editions.
